The exact definition when you look up modesty is:
The behavior, manner, or appearance intended to avoid impropriety or indecency.
Why does modesty matter? Why can't I just wear what I want to?
likewise also that women should adorn
themselves in respectable apparel, with
modesty and self-control, not with braided
hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but
with what is proper for women
1Timothy 2:9-10
“Charm is deceitful,
and beauty is vain, but a woman
who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
Proverbs 31:30
"Instead, it should be that of your inner
self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and
quiet spirit, which is of great worth to God."
1Peter 3:4
It seems to me that in this generation, we have lost the art of modesty. Even when I wear nike shorts and go to the nursing home, they are astonished I would wear such a thing. Celebrities are dressing as if they are in a competition to see who can have the least amount of fabric. Stores are beginning to sell shorter shorts, and tighter tops. It is getting harder and harder to find a long enough dress, long enough shorts, or a loose enough shirt. It is almost like its becoming impossible to find clothes that cover. For instance, leggings and yoga pants are being worn as jeans. I definitely wear leggings but I make sure my shirt is covering what needs to be covered. I understand the struggle of finding long enough shorts too. My long legs don't go well when it comes to short or even jean shopping. But, there are clothes out there that are super cute and modest!
"Modest clothing should be a reflection of a humble
heart committed to honoring God."
"What we attract reveals our heart" - Jackie Kendall
Did you read that?? WHAT WE ATTRACT REVEALS OUR HEART!!! If you are wondering why you keep attracting disrespectful guys, start by looking at what you wear.
I try my best to dress in a way that honors God. I want what I wear to be respectable, I also want people to take me seriously. It also says in scripture that man looks at the appearance while the Lord looks at the heart. I want to help out my brothers in Christ. You also want to respect yourselves by not tempting guys to look at you lustfully. I hear girls saying guys should just guard their eyes, but why don't we help them out as sisters in Christ? Why don't we change our perspective? We want to attract the right kind of guy and by doing so, we must beware of what we wear. Girls always complain about guys and their lusting, when in reality you are encouraging them by what you wear! Do not be a woman who makes a man stumble!
A beautiful woman is one that lives out Proverbs 31, a beautiful woman is not one that shows off what she's got. You want to be an irresistible woman because of your heart, not your body. You might think you look super cute in that swimsuit, but be mindful of what you are showing to the world via Instagram. Be mindful of the snapchats you are sending, or the pictures you are posting. Guys think differently than we do, and that is just the simple truth. God wired them that way, but we are called to encourage others in their faith. We can not encourage them by wearing clothes that reveal.
I love fashion and dressing up. In fact, I thought about majoring in fashion for awhile. Just because you are cautious about what you wear, does not mean you don't care about appearance. I love following trends and putting my own twist to it to fit my simplistic style. But let us not get so warped by our culture to think it's okay to dress to impress through our bodies.
I usually blog about struggles I have faced and give my personal experience and advice. For this particular topic I have never struggled with immodesty, But maybe you do, so I would encourage you to pray about it and see what God reveals to your heart. Or maybe you have felt convicted reading this. Whatever the case may be, go to God and he will reveal Himself to you.
I also love how girls have been messaging me after reading my blogs, it seriously makes my day. I pray for each and every person that comes to me asking for prayer or when they just simply say they liked my blog. I want this blog to be an encouragement to you.
You are beautiful. You are worthy. You are enough.
Do not think for one second revealing your body
increases beauty or worth.
