First off, I am overwhelmed with how many people have actually read my blogs, and all of the support I have gotten. I want to use this blog to further God's kingdom. Most of this blog will be filled with key verses about finding your purpose and what it actually means.
What is my purpose in life? Why am I here? What do I have to offer?
Those were questions I often asked myself throughout junior high and on into high school.
We are often fed so many lies by our culture that we are not good enough. We scroll through Instagram envying other peoples lives and posts. We begin to believe we are not enough. We start wondering if we have any gifts. I am here to tell you specifically that you are enough and you have a specific purpose here on earth. Your ultimate home is in heaven, and your overall purpose is to further God's kingdom. But where do you start?
I call to God Most High,
to God who fulfills His purpose for me.
Psalm 57:2
For it is by grace you have been saved,
through faith—and this is not from yourselves,
it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no
one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork,
created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which
God prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2:8-10
You can start by asking yourself, does this bring God glory? Because that is your ultimate purpose. Everything should lead back to Jesus. We are called to fix our eyes on Jesus, to love others, and to speak hope. That is your purpose in one sentence. Now you just have to figure out how you are going to live that out.
For me personally, things I am passionate about include writing, calligraphy, nursing home volunteering, and working in student ministry. God's intent for me is to use all of those things for His good rather than my own. I have to remember to give Him all the credit when it comes to any accomplishment. In whatever you do, your purpose leads back to Jesus Christ. Maybe you are really talented at basketball and God wants you to share your faith with your teammates. Or you have danced for the past ten years and God uses you to speak truth to your dance team. Whatever your gift may be, God wants you to use it because that is your purpose!
We have different gifts, according to the
grace given to each of us. If your gift is
prophesying, then prophesy in accordance
with your faith; if it is serving, then serve;
if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage,
then give encouragement;if it is giving, then
give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently;
if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
Romans 12:6-8
Heart Check:
Are you using your purpose to further God's kingdom, or your own?
