The Lost Art of Writing
I think writing and mailing letters is a lost art. I think there is something so special about receiving a personal letter from someone in their own handwriting and own thoughts. Clearly I love to write, but more than that I love to write personal letters. No matter who you are writing, getting a letter in the mail with your name on is so special. I have always been someone who keeps any and every letter/card I receive. Writing helps organize our thoughts and sometimes reveals things we did not even know about ourselves. I have always been someone who is better at writing out what they feel than saying it out loud. Even as a kid, if I got in trouble or was disrespectful towards my parents, I would write them apology letters. There is so much value in putting pen to paper, so lets bring back letter writing!
Advantages in Long Distance
You have a lot more free time on your hands. You have time to pour into your friends and family without having your daily date nights. Of course there are disadvantages to long distance, but I try and focus on the advantages. It makes the time you do spend together, better. You learn to appreciate and value the time you get, even if it is for a short time. Long distance also helps with making sure Christ is the center. If Christ is not the center, then long distance would fail just like any other relationship.
Geographical Circumstances
When I made the decision to do college online earlier this year it got me thinking how hard it would be to ever meet a godly man. I know, I should not focus on that, but that was my thought. In the book I always talk about, Lady In Waiting, Jackie Kendall said "Your circumstances and geographical location do not threaten God's will and purpose". That gave me peace in that little worry. Little did I know that meant I would date a guy who lives in another state. Kendall also said, "Your location or your occupation may not make you very accessible to available godly men, but these roadblocks do not handicap God."
For everything there is a
season, and a time for
every matter under heaven:
-Ecclesiastes 3:1
Trust in the Lord with all your
heart, and do not lean on your
own understanding. In all your
ways acknowledge him, and
he will make straight your paths.
