This year I have learned a lot about how I should be spending my time. A couple months ago I started reading Ordering Your Private World by Gordon MacDonald. The book is all about working on managing your time and working on your faith. At first I was kind of bored with the book, but once I got a couple chapters in I started learning a lot. If you are someone who has a hard time with actual time I recommend this book, or if you just need to work on yourself and your private world.
It seems we are always on the go. We always have things to do and things to get done. The first thing I would say in order to start prioritizing your time is to realize what the goal is. The ultimate goal is to make God increase and yourself decrease ( John 3:30 ). You have to view life in the correct way in order to truly prioritize your time.
Whatever you do, work at it with
all your heart, as working for the
Lord, not for human masters.
Colossians 3:23
My takeaway from that verse is simply, do not be lazy. First of all, know that laziness is not something that is from God. Second, when we work hard it should be for the Lord and not for the approval of others. Whatever stage in life we are in, we are supposed to work for the Lord. We also need not to waste our time on worthless and fleeting things of this world.
I think we can all agree that phones are a big part of how we get distracted. For me, It is the battle of going on my phone first thing in the morning, or getting right out of bed and to my set aside time with Jesus. The thing you first do in the morning shows where your priorities are. Do you wake up and turn the tv right on, or go on your Instagram feed? Or do you get out of bed to spend your time most effectively with Jesus early in the morning? The enemy loves how distracted and lazy we get when it comes to being on our phones. I love watching youtube, I start with watching a makeup tutorial or a funny vine compilation and end up an hours later watching a documentary or what not. Or I go on Instagram and my stalking game is really on fire that day, so next minute I know I'm looking at my friends aunts dogs grandmas daughters page. It can get quite out of hand! But it is all about prioritizing your time and becoming self disciplined to be able to put your phone away.
I always hear people saying they wish they could be productive, or they wish they could be an early riser. And the truth is, you can do all those things.
You have to learn what you find your pursuit in. Is it through your job, significant other, school, a sport, or is it truly found in Christ Jesus?
