“whatever is true, whatever is honorable,
whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever
is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there
is any excellence, if there is anything worthy
of praise, think about these things”
Philippians 4:8
This verse can apply to so much, but it also applies to book reading when you think about it. Books that encourage your walk with the Lord are something to think upon. Books are to help deepen your knowledge in something whatever that may be. For me, I read to further my Knowledge of Jesus.
I am learning so much in 2018 already. For example, the importance of reading books. Gordon MacDonald said this;
"In our age of mass media, the younger generation is finding it harder and harder to acquire the discipline of reading, and that may be one of the greatest losses of our time"
Oh how that statement is so true! I used to hate reading.. well I do if it is for school. But reading books that will further my knowledge as a Christ follower I love. I am currently reading 9 books at the moment, and wow I love it. I have never been a book worm, but I am kind of getting there. You grow so much through reading, and that is something I never thought I would say. Another Gordon MacDonald quote is this;
"The Christian who is not growing intellectually is like a book whose many pages remain unopened and unread. Like the book, he may be of some value, but not nearly as much as if he had chosen to sharpen and develop his mind."
I never thought that reading and learning could be so important until I read this book. I have already found reading to become easier as I read more and more. I am indeed growing intellectually along with reading books.
I have a list of book recommendations on my home page. If you don't know where to start I have listed some of my favorite and current reads.
